Description: Belt, Abenaki style. Made by Rachel Meloon (1744- ? ) for Peter Kimball of Boscawen, NH. Red, blue, and brown dyed porcupine quills on beige fabric (twined grass). "RM PETER KIMBALL" woven in belt. Small pieces of woven fabric (perhaps linen) added on one or both ends. Some small pieces of leather sewn onto belt edge in a few places.

Provenance: Made for Peter Kimball, by Rachel Meloon who was captured by the Indians and remained with them for several years. After her release she made this belt, which Peter Kimball wore at the Battle of Bennington, where he was wounded. The donor, Cyrus A. Kimball (1861-1927), was the great-grandson of Peter Kimball.
