1868 Graduated from high school

1870–1880 Studied and worked with marine painter William Bradford in Fairhaven, Massachusetts, and New York City; studied at the National Academy of Design

c. 1875 Established a studio in Boston, Massachusetts

1875 Exhibited at the American Society of Painters in Watercolors

1876 Produced earliest known White Mountain work; first exhibited at the National Academy of Design and the Boston Art Club

1880 Traveled in Europe and studied at the Academie Julien, Paris

1882 Became a member of the Boston Art Club

1883 Traveled in northern Africa and Spain

1884 Exhibited European paintings at the Boston Art Club

1921 Died in New Bedford, Massachusetts
