1855 Solo exhibition at Richard Morris Hunt’s studio in New York City

1859 Traveled in Europe with Sanford R. Gifford

1860 Elected Associate at the National Academy of Design; first exhibited at the Boston Athenaeum; enlisted in Union Army

1861 Elected Academician at the National Academy of Design

1867 Exhibited at the Exposition Universelle, Paris, France

1868–69 Sketching trip in Europe with his wife; was joined there by artists Sanford R. Gifford and Frederic E. Church

1872 Exhibited at the Royal Academy in London, England

1873 First exhibited at the Boston Art Club

1876 Exhibited at the U.S. Centennial Exposition, Philadelphia

1877 Exhibited at the American Watercolor Society

1891 Died in Rondout, Ulster County, New York
